The Prairie Valley School Division has expanded its mask requirements and postponed extracurricular activities due to COVID-19.
In a media release Friday, the division said all students at Prairie Valley schools now will have to wear masks. Previously, students from prekindergarten to Grade 3 weren’t required to wear face coverings.
“This change follows the provincial announcement on November 17, which increased the measures across the province in order to slow the spread of COVID-19, including mandatory masks in all public spaces,” the division said in the release.
As well, Prairie Valley is postponing all of its schools’ extracurricular activities until Jan. 4.
It said it was making the move due to the increased number of COVID cases in the province and in communities where the division’s students live. As well, it pointed to “the additional public health measures including a reduction in private gatherings and physical distancing limitations for fitness facilities.”
