The number of active COVID-19 cases being reported in Saskatchewan went over the 3,000 mark Wednesday.
In a media release, the Ministry of Health said there were 164 new cases and 79 more recoveries to report. That moved the number of active cases to an all-time high of 3,012.
There were 139 active cases being reported in Saskatchewan at the end of September.
The new cases reported Wednesday increased the province’s total number of cases to date to 7,047.
The Regina region recorded the most cases Wednesday, with 69. Other new cases were reported in the Saskatoon (37), north-central (10), southeast (nine), southwest (nine), far northeast (eight), far northwest (seven), northeast (five), far north-central (three), central-east (three), northwest (one) and south-central (one) zones.
The hometowns of two cases are pending.
The seven-day average of new cases is 214, or 17.7 per 100,000 population.
The active caseload in the province included 839 cases in the Saskatoon area, 693 in the Regina region and 323 in the north-central zone.
The recoveries reported Wednesday increased that total to date to 3,998. To date, 37 residents of the province have died after testing positive for COVID-19.
There are 111 people in Saskatchewan hospitals due to COVID, an all-time high in the province.
There are 19 people in intensive care, with 11 in Saskatoon, four in Regina and two in each of the northwest and southwest zones.
Of the 92 people receiving inpatient care, 36 are in Saskatoon, 19 are in the southeast zone, 14 are in Regina, nine are in the north-central area, eight are in the northwest, two are in the central-east zone, two are in the southwest, one is in the far northwest and one is in the northeast area.
Nearly half of the total number of cases reported so far don’t have a known link to others. There are 1,919 cases under investigation by public health and 1,473 cases don’t have any known exposure.
The provincial total also includes 3,195 community contacts and 460 travellers.
To date, 216 health-care workers have contracted the virus. That number increased by nine from Tuesday’s report.
The total comprises 2,490 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 1,883 from ages 40 to 59, 1,494 involving people 19 and under, 929 between the ages of 60 and 79, and 246 in the 80-and-over range. The ages of five cases are being confirmed.
There have been 2,042 cases to date in the Saskatoon area, 1,478 from the north area, 1,164 in the Regina region, 951 from the south, 815 in the far north, and 566 from the central zone. The hometowns of 31 cases are still being determined.
There were 2,811 tests processed in the province on Tuesday, increasing the total to date to 326,871.
