Regina Police Chief Evan Bray was pleased to see a 23-year-old cold case result in an arrest with charges laid.
Speaking to Gormley on Tuesday morning, the police chief was talking about the arrest of 78-year-old Joseph Thauberger, who has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his brother Patrick, who was in Regina to visit family in 1997.
Joseph Thauberger has also been charged with offering an indignity to a human body and uttering threats.
“We always remind the public that we’re vigilant to the work that we’re doing, we’re vigilant to any tips that might come in and every once in a while, a tip will come in,” Bray said.
“There has been a ton of recent activity that our officers and investigators have been able to do on this case that ultimately led to that charge so we’re quite happy about that.
“The investigation is not done yet. There’s still some very active work going on but I think as this unfolds through the court case, it will be an interesting one to follow for sure.”
The Thauberger case is far from being the only one to remain unsolved. For people who’ve had a loved one go missing, Bray wants them to know that the case is always active.
“Just know that we will not stop working on these cases,” he said. “These are always open cases and investigations, and there’s always the hope that we will be able to bring some resolution and closure to a family.”
