Splash!
A friend of mine is a rally driver. A Hall of Fame rally driver.
I think about his driving prowess whenever the winter weather gets warm and sloppy. Have you seen those videos of rally cars plowing through waterholes that are big enough for a crocodile and a hippopotamus? The brown, dirty water goes splashing everywhere and the half-submerged car keeps moving, windshield wipers clearing away the muck.
That’s how it looks in Saskatchewan these days, with drivers speeding along Idylwyld or Saskatchewan drive, their tires crashing into the potholes and splashing nearby pedestrians with ugly, brown water. The snow and ice may soon reappear, but right now there are water hazards everywhere.
I saw a guy get splashed yesterday. The driver of the little car — it looked like a rally car — didn’t slow down, hit one of the countless potholes and splash! He drenched the pedestrian’s pants. All the angry, innocent guy could do was wave his middle finger at the departing car.
I know it wasn’t my friend driving the rally car. He slows down for pedestrians, like all good drivers should.
