Sugar babies: U of S students use dating site to earn cash, gifts

University of Saskatchewan students have been getting paid big bucks to become a “sugar baby” on a new dating website.

Seeking Arrangement seeks to match people who prefer different “lifestyle choices.”

Specifically, they match a person who wishes to dote on their partner — a “sugar daddy” or “sugar momma” — with someone who likes to be spoiled — a “sugar baby.”
 
Spokesperson Brook Urick says “daddies” and “mommas” are paying $2,700 a month for companionship.
 
“It helps students pay for tuition, books, things that people are struggling to pay for in your province,” Urick said.
 
Site data indicates 396 U of S students have signed up since Seeking Arrangement was created.

Over 180 students signed up in 2016 alone.
 
“This is a convenient relationship for sugar daddies and mommies because they’ve been divorced or have kids from a previous relationship and they don’t have time for a traditional relationship,” Urick said.
 
She said the benefit is they get to find exactly what they’re looking for in a relationship.
 
“Maybe you just want someone to hang out with once a week,” she said. “Maybe you just want somebody to text you every day to tell you you’re great. It’s totally up to you and that’s what makes these relationships great.”
 
631,000 people use the service in Canada, with over 200,000 of them being students.
