The Saskatoon Blades will be paying homage to the province’s history in agriculture when they host Lethbridge on Saturday.
They will sport green and white Jerseys for ‘I Love Saskatchewan’ night in partnership with PotashCorp. The shirts feature a logo in the shape of the province and a neckline reading “I Heart Saskatchewan” – designed by local company Hardpressed.
“I love it, some Saskatchewan green it might be my favourite,” said Blades forward Jesse Shynkaruk, who has worn his fair share of third jerseys over his four-year WHL career.
It’s all for a good cause, with the Blades and PotashCorp hosting the night in support of Saskatchewan Food Bank. The jerseys will be auctioned off post-game with proceeds going towards the Food Bank.
“We don’t see as much food coming through the door in January so this is a perfect time,” said Laurie O’Connor, Executive Director of the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre.
Fans are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the game for the Food Bank.
“It’s very difficult for people to make ends meet and we’re seeing 21,000 people come in each month.”
Bins will be located at all the entries to SaskTel Centre for drop offs of food.
The Blades host Lethbridge Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
