A call about men smashing Christmas ornaments in Regina’s downtown ended with the alleged discovery of a home-made gun and other weapons.
According to a media release from the Regina Police Service (RPS), residents of the downtown called police to report men smashing Christmas ornaments around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived, they detained two men. The RPS say one of them had a can of what seemed to be bear mace in his pocket; after searching further, a home-made “improvised” gun — loaded with ammunition — was found in his backpack, along with a number of knives.
Police have charged an 18-year-old with one count of unauthorized possession of a gun, three charges of carrying a concealed weapon, three charges of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and one count of careless use of a firearm.
A second man has outstanding warrants in Saskatoon, and was later released to appear in court.
