The usual calm of Regina’s Whitmore Park was disrupted by an unusual shooting in the south end neighbourhood.
Police got the call of a gun being fired around 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Shannon Road. When officers arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately sent to hospital.
Neighbours were left stunned.
“Never seen anything like this,” said Elijah Mounts, who lives next door. “It’s definitely scary.”
The area is filled with many homes decorated in colourful lights. However, the red and blue flashing of police lights seemed out of place. It’s what first caught the attention of Mounts and his girlfriend.
“We’re just kind of confused, especially in this neighbourhood on Shannon Road. Usually it’s pretty quiet.”
Investigators snapped pictures of the crime scene, which consisted of a small area in front of the house that also included the road where a truck was left. It was all encased in yellow police tape. While officers were doing their job, nearly every surrounding home had its lights on, as people stood and curiously watched from inside trying to get a glimpse of what was transpiring outside.
“There was paramedics coming out and then they brought a stretcher and the guy was kind of saying a couple times ‘I’m scared, I’m scared.’ It sounded like him,” Mounts recalled, adding his concern as a father of three kids.
The current condition of the man in hospital is not known. Police said it’s too early in the investigation to answer whether a gun was found or if anyone has been taken into custody.
