A group of approximately 100 protesters gathered Saturday in the area of Main Street North and Thatcher Drive in Moose Jaw, calling for an “open and public debate” over current public health measures in Saskatchewan.
The Moose Jaw Police Service issued four tickets for breaking the public health order, each worth a fine of $2,800.
While the event was generally peaceful, several of those in attendance at the rally were heard making threats and verbally abusing members of the media who were there to cover the protest, with one individual warning a reporter to watch their back.
Attendees waved signs with slogans like “Mask on, brain off,” and “COVID plandemic is the new globalist 911.” One protester was seen waving a “Trump 2020” flag.
The event was organized by the Facebook group “Saskatchewan Freedom Revolution,” with protesters coming from as far away as Saskatoon.
Officers from the Moose Jaw Police Service were on the scene of the rally. Prior to the event, the police service issued as media release saying, “(We) recognize the right to peaceful assembly and the responsibility or participants in assemblies to comply with all laws, including the current Public Health Order.”
