All eyes will be on Guy Lafleur in Saskatoon Friday night.
The five-time Stanley Cup champion is in town for the 57th annual Kinsmen Celebrity Sports Dinner.
Lafleur will be honoured by former teammates and friends including Mario Lemieux, Luc Robitaille, Kelly Chase, Marco Estrada and Marc Bergevin.
“A bunch of great guys came out for the event and it’s going to be fantastic,” Lafleur said Friday.
Lafleur also touched on the recent news of a stolen Gordie Howe jersey from the community of Asquith, just west of Saskatoon.
The piece of hockey history was to be raffled off to benefit the local rink. On Thursday, a local family stepped up to donate their own signed Howe jersey to keep the fundraiser alive.
“It’s a really sad story,” he said. “I could give one of mine, but I don’t know how I would replace Gordie Howe value wise. It would be a pleasure for me to sign a jersey and give it to the community.”
The sold out Kinsmen dinner is held at TCU Place and starts at 6:30 p.m.
All money raised goes back into the community to various organizations such as the Kinsmen Inner City Hockey League.
