I don’t know whether to feel bad for or laugh at the Ottawa Senators.
No NHL team can really tell how good it is when it plays Ottawa. Edmonton has two straight wins. Vancouver got three straight wins.
And both teams seem like they turned their seasons around. Vancouver is crashing back to reality and we may expect Edmonton to do the same later this week when they take on the Calgary Flames.
But back to Ottawa. The Senators are bad. They may be the worst team we’ve seen in the NHL since those bad expansion team days in the ’90s. The 1974-75 Washington Capitals have the fewest wins in a season, with eight.
Will it be that bad in a shortened season for the Senators? Yes, it could be worse.
They aren’t close for most of their games and are completely undermanned. The owner has been cheap and the whole thing is rotten to the core.
The only benefit of having no fans allowed in the building for the Senators is saving themselves the embarrassment of playing in front of empty seats anyway. No fan should pay good money to watch a team as sorry as this one unless they’re there as fans of the opposition.
