The Green Party of Saskatchewan has announced its candidate in the upcoming byelection for Saskatoon-Meewasin.
Party leader Shawn Setyo will be on the ballot for the Greens against the Sask. Party’s Brent Penner, Ryan Meili with the New Democrats and David Prokopchuk with the Progressive Conservatives.
Setyo won’t be the only party leader in the race. Saskatchewan Liberal leader Darrin Lamoureux will also contest the seat, which was left vacant after the death of Roger Parent.
Parent won the seat by about 300 votes in last year’s provincial election.
A biography released by the Green Party states Setyo is the son of immigrant parents and currently works at a local software and technology company. He has been the party’s leader since October 2016.
A win by Setyo would secure the Greens their first seat in the province’s history.
The byelection vote will be held March 2.
