The City of Regina is set to make changes to an intersection on Albert Street where a Regina woman was killed in November.
On Tuesday, the city announced it was installing a pedestrian corridor at the intersection of Albert and the south service roads. Work is to begin later this month.
The corridor will feature illuminated crosswalk signs, lighting to improve visibility for drivers and pedestrian poles and push buttons on both sides of the street.
The city expects the work to be done by early spring, weather permitting.
On Nov. 4, a 21-year-old woman died when she was struck by an excavator in the intersection. Her death sparked the launch of an online petition calling for improvements at the intersection.
In Tuesday’s media release, the city said it continues to address pedestrian safety at areas around the city. It pointed to a pedestrian corridor that recently was installed on Wascana Parkway near 23rd Avenue.
“Upgrade locations are primarily determined based on analysis that considers the number of pedestrians and vehicles at the intersection, as well as other factors such as intersection geometry, vehicular speeds and age of pedestrians using the intersection,” the city said.
