VICTORIA — Peter McCrory has been elected president of Triathlon Canada.
He replaces Les Pereira, who stepped down from the organization’s board of directors last week.
McCrory is also director of the Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary.
He’s been the chair of Triathlon Canada’s governance committee for two years.
“It is an incredible honour to have the opportunity to lead the board of directors for a sport that has been in my blood since the age of 15,” McCrory said Tuesday in a statement.
“This is an exciting, yet critical time, in the history of Triathlon Canada.
“We are in a good place both on and off the field of play, but triathlon is still a relatively young sport compared to others and we need to continue to be innovative and challenge ourselves as a community across the country if we truly want to achieve excellence at all levels.”
McCrory immigrated to Canada from Ireland in 2011.
The former British Royal Air Force (RAF) helicopter pilot worked for Calgary’s Repsol Sport Centre before becoming the oval’s director.
