Star players have missed or skipped White House visits in the past. Chicago Bulls phenom Michael Jordan, Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas, Boston Celtics forward Larry Bird and even Brady, New England’s quarterback have been among the no-shows for various reasons.
Athletes are certainly free to make political statements. Indeed, it’s impossible these days to keep politics separate from sports.
And if the Cleveland Cavaliers win another NBA title, can anyone imagine LeBron James accepting Trump’s invitation?
