Edmonton’s Rogers Place will get some visitors from Saskatoon on Valentine’s Day.
SaskTel management and a select few guests from Saskatoon Tourism are set to tour the facility and catch an Edmonton Oil Kings game Tuesday.
“It’s an educational project for us,” said SaskTel Centre CEO Will Lofdahl. “Unless you know what’s out there, you don’t know how to make things better.”
Saskatoon’s Future Advisory Committee and TCU Place are conducting a study to determine the feasibility of a downtown arena.
The study will begin later in February and is expected to be complete by end of the summer.
“I don’t have an opinion on whether we move downtown until these studies are done,” Lofdahl said.
He added the trip to Edmonton is also about sizing up SaskTel Centre’s prairie competition.
“It’s important for our board members to know what we compete against when we’re bringing premier events to Saskatoon.”
Sasktel Centre celebrated its 29th birthday Thursday.
