A 32-year-old Regina man received three jolts from a Taser on Tuesday night after he allegedly threw a stereo at a police officer.
In a media release Wednesday, the Regina Police Service said officers responded at about 11 p.m., to a report of a disturbance at a house on Victoria Avenue just north of the General Hospital.
Police were told loud screaming had been coming from the house.
When officers got to the scene, a man met them at the door and admitted there had been a disagreement. They asked to enter the house to check on the other occupants, but the man said no.
Officers subsequently were told the man was wanted on warrants and a probation order. When they tried to arrest him, the police release says, the man “broke away, picked up a stereo and threw it at one of the officers.”
The other officer used a Taser on the man, but police say it was only “temporarily effective” and the man continued to resist arrest.
“The CEW was cycled a second time and third time as additional officers arrived and assisted in getting the suspect safely into custody,” the police said in their release.
The man received medical treatment before being taken to cells. The other occupant of the house, a 51-year-old man, was located unhurt.
The 32-year-old was charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting arrest and breach of probation. He made his first court appearance Wednesday.
