Police seized more than two dozen bottles of whiskey and charged two people with bootlegging Friday in northern Saskatchewan.
The RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle carrying a variety of alcohol passing through the Moose Island checkpoint heading toward Wollaston Lake, roughly 500 kilometres north of La Ronge.
When the vehicle was stopped by police, alcohol was found in plain sight. A search of the vehicle found 36 26-ounce bottles of whiskey, one 66-ounce bottle of vodka and three coolers.
Two of the three people in the vehicle were charged with bootlegging.
“Thanks to the co-operation from the community, the removal of this amount of alcohol resulted in reduced calls for service for alcohol-related incidents and approximately 50 per cent fewer people arrested and held for alcohol-related incidents,” the RCMP said in a media release.
