Chris Jones is learning.
That much is apparent through not only the first two days of free agency but also how he’s handling business. Last year, there were several deals done that left them red faced, with either injury issues or retirements that seemingly came out of the blue.
Not so much this year.
Jones is also not talking up his roster in February, rather leaving that up to the fans and pundits. Yes, he’s very pleased with the free agent signings so far but he admitted to talking big about building a Grey Cup team in 2016 at this time last year.
And how well did that go?
This year, Jones is waiting to see it on the field before he believes it and, maybe, so should we. But fans and, yes, the pundits can sometimes have short memories.
Which is why we shouldn’t be running football teams. Jones learning from mistakes is what will turn him into a rookie GM into a successful GM.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s take Jones advice and see how this plays out.
