YELLOWKNIFE — The Northwest Territories says it will increase its minimum wage to $15.20 an hour starting Sept. 1.
The territory’s minimum wage is currently $13.46 an hour and hasn’t increased since 2018.
The raise means the N.W.T. will have the second-highest minimum wage in the country after Nunavut, which has a $16 hourly rate.
Employment Minister R.J. Simpson announced the increase in the legislative assembly.
The minimum wage must be reviewed every two years by a committee established in 2013.
Simpson says the decision to increase the wage was made with advice from the committee, which is made up of representatives from businesses and community organizations across the territory.
