The Saskatchewan RCMP has arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife last year.
Michael MacKay, 38, faces one count of first-degree murder in relation to the death of his wife Cindy MacKay on Feb. 7, 2020.
A news release from RCMP said the Meota woman was transported to a North Battleford hospital in medical distress on Feb. 7, 2020.
While she was in hospital, health-care workers treating Cindy “raised concerns” to the nearby RCMP detachment, which launched an investigation. She died five days after arriving at the hospital.
Michael MacKay was arrested Thursday in Warman following an investigation conducted by RCMP Major Crime Unit North, the RCMP Historical Case Unit North, Battlefords RCMP, Battlefords RCMP General Investigation Section and RCMP Forensic Identification Section.
His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday in North Battleford Provincial Court via telephone.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is an amended version of the story. On Friday, the RCMP corrected the timeline of events.
