Major League Baseball is trying to find ways to speed up games.
One solution: changing extra innings. Another is no more intentional walks, rather a signal to give the batter a free pass to first without a pitch being thrown.
Sure, fine, this all sounds well and good but I can’t help the hypocrisy of this.
In one sentence they say they need more speed to the game and better flow but the next thing out of their mouth is how they’re looking at expanding and enhancing video review.

Do you know what MLB’s intentional walk rule will save in terms of time? Oh, about a minute.
Do you know what the average challenge review in MLB is from end of play to the next play? More than two minutes.
The games aren’t getting longer because of intentional walks.
But the biggest delay in baseball: the meeting at the mound. If you’re not changing pitchers, stay in the dugout!
I’d much rather limits in challenges and meetings than take out the intentional walk because you never know when you’re going to get a good blooper when the pitcher throws it to the fence.
