We know Canada is a hockey country but the NHL definitely has the federal government’s ear when it comes to regulations.
It has been able to make the government’s pandemic restrictions shift for the league like no one else. Apparently, hockey has now been deemed an essential service in this country.
The latest move has been the quarantine rules for those who crossed the American border into Canada. And wouldn’t you know it, with the trade deadline in a few weeks, the feds will relax the quarantine to seven days for NHL players.
Now, let me be clear. It makes sense. The players get tested all the time but let’s make sure other sports get the same treatment going forward.
The next league asking for government clearance is the Canadian Football League. American players are getting ready to hear when they’re supposed to cross the border.
So we expect to hear the CFLers will be getting the same quarantine rules or it’ll be abundantly clear the federal government is picking favourites — though no one would be surprised if they are.
