Lights are back on across the province after high winds and a snowstorm knocked out power to thousands of customers.
In a media release late Tuesday afternoon, SaskPower spokesperson Scott McGregor said all residential customers who lost their power during the storm had their service restored.
“Our preliminary numbers show that 50,226 customers experienced a loss of service as a result of the storm,” McGregor wrote. “During the storm, our Outage Centre fielded over 16,583 calls.
“Some customers may experience minor planned outages in the coming hours as crews conduct repairs.”
Updates on planned outages can be found here.
Closed highways and wind gusts that topped 100 kilometres per hour delayed repairs as the conditions were too dangerous for crews to work in.
Despite widespread outages, the provincial grid held up well under stormy conditions.
“Overall, the grid was in pretty good shape,” McGregor said. “We didn’t see widespread physical damage to the infrastructure. We saw some poles broke and lines brought down.”
Anyone who sees a downed line should stay at least 10 metres back and call the outage centre at 310-2220.
