Easter is here and for many people, that means an opportunity to chow down on chocolate, cakes, ice cream and more.
People indulging their sweet tooth have bakeries feeling busy.
Jared Bugyi, the owner of Queen City Cakes, said people usually flock to the store around holidays, but Easter is a special case, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re still pretty busy on a regular day. For Easter, I find that every holiday in Regina is pretty last minute, so we never really know what we’re getting into, until days like today. Now, we’re hitting (the ground) running,” he said with a laugh.
With many unable to see their friends and family because of COVID measures, Bugyi thinks some are turning to sweets to stay in touch.
“Everybody is doing eggs and baskets for their kids, their family, their friends … those that maybe they can’t be around this year,” he said. “Everything’s colourful and fun.”
While it can get hectic at times, he still loves working in the sugar industry.
“We keep pretty entertained and we make people smile one cake at a time …,” he said. “It’s just making people happy.”
