Regina firefighters were busy Thursday morning as they battled a fire at a local recycling centre.
Crews were on the scene of Crown Shred and Recycling in the Eastview industrial neighbourhood just before noon after an employee reported a fire right outside the building.

When firefighters arrived, they found a bundle of recyclables on fire.
Part of the road along Sixth Avenue East was blocked off while crews doused the blaze. Police stayed on the scene to help with redirecting traffic.
Deputy Fire Chief Gord Hewitt said everyone reacted quickly to make sure things didn’t escalate out of control.
“This was just one of those incidents that the faster you can get the water on it, the better chance we had of it not affecting the structure itself,” Hewitt said. “There’s quite a bit of smoke in the building right now and crews are going to be trying to clear that out for a while.
“Nobody was injured from the fire and everybody managed to get out of the building.”

Hewitt says firefighters would remain on the scene throughout the day Thursday to make sure there weren’t any hotspots left in the area.
It’s unknown what caused the pile of recyclables to catch fire or how much damage was caused.
