It’s not hard to see why the last three Stanley Cup winners succeeded.
Sidney Crosby proved he was the best playoff player in the NHL in 2016. In 2015, Chicago had a talented team with some 2010 holdovers.
The same could be said for the 2014 LA Kings, who also won the Cup in 2012. These have been great teams to watch in the postseason.
However, I like watching teams with little conference final experience go deep. Last year San Jose finally got to the championship series. Vancouver did the same thing in 2011.
In 2017, I’d enjoy watching Minnesota get to the Final Four.
Wild GM Chuck Fletcher and coach Bruce Boudreau have iced a team that is stingy defensively, and is a bit deeper up front with the addition of Martin Hanzal.
Watching fans in the hockey-crazy state of Minnesota get the chance to see their NHL team go to the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 1991 would be must-see TV.
