Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Health is reporting there were 193 new COVID-19 cases, 222 recoveries and one more death, this time in the southeast.
A person in their 70s in the southeast zone is the latest Saskatchewan resident to die due to the virus. The death toll in the province now stands at 458.
There have been 3,901 cases of variants of concern identified in the province, an increase of 88 since Tuesday.
A look at the numbers
The 193 new cases increase the provincial total to date to 37,805.
The latest new cases were reported in the Regina (66), Saskatoon (40), northwest (20), central-east (13), southwest (eight), south-central (nine), southeast (17), north-central (two), far northwest (five), and northeast (two) zones. The hometowns of 11 other cases are being determined.
The residences of six cases have been determined and are in the southeast (four), northwest (one), and south central (one) zones.
The seven-day average of daily new cases is 271, or 22.1 per 100,000 population.
The Regina region continues to have the most variant cases, at 2,532. That number grew by 27 from Tuesday.
The southeast (378), south-central (333) and central-east (121) areas also are reporting triple-digit totals of variants cases.
The recoveries announced Wednesday increased that total so far to 34,102. There are 2,525 active cases being reported in Saskatchewan.
There are 204 people in Saskatchewan hospitals due to COVID, including 41 in intensive care. There are 27 ICU cases in Regina, eight in Saskatoon, two each in the southwest and south-central zones, and one each in the north-central and southwest zones.
The 3,258 tests processed in the province Tuesday increased the total so far to 713,913.
Vaccination update
There were 8,682 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered Tuesday in Saskatchewan, hiking the provincial total to 307,449.
The latest doses were given in the Regina (2,473), Saskatoon (1,944), southeast (369), central-east (657), central-west (758), south-central (517), southwest (366), north-central (686), northwest (451), northeast (105), far northwest (59), and far northeast (36) zones.
There were 261 shots given to people whose residence is still being confirmed.
As of Tuesday, 55 per cent of Saskatchewan residents age 50 and over have received their first dose of vaccine.
