Four people from the Regina region are the latest Saskatchewan residents to die due to COVID-19.
In its daily update Wednesday, the Ministry of Health reported one person in each of the 30-to-39, 40-to-49, 70-to-79 and 80-and-over age groups had died.
To date, 469 Saskatchewan residents have died due to the virus.
The province also reported there were 231 new cases of COVID-19, 317 recoveries and 275 new cases involving variants of concern.
A look at the numbers
The new COVID cases reported Wednesday were in the Regina (75), Saskatoon (68), southeast (21), central-east (19), far northwest (12), northwest (eight), southwest (eight), south-central (five), north-central (four), northeast (one) and central-west (one) zones.
The hometowns of nine cases are being determined.
The total number of cases in the province to date stands at 38,883.
The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases was 253, or 20.7 per 100,000 population.
To date, there have been 35,863 recoveries. The active caseload stands at 2,551.
So far, 5,302 cases of variants of concern have been identified by screening in Saskatchewan. The Regina (3,118), Saskatoon (543), southeast (542) and south-central (417) zones all are reporting more than 400 cases.
Of the 2,060 variant cases in the province with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing, 2,046 are the United Kingdom variants, nine are the South African mutation and five are the Brazilian strain. The Regina zone accounts for 1,474 of the cases.
There are 185 people in Saskatchewan hospitals due to COVID, the lowest that figure has been in April.
The total includes 49 people who are in intensive care, with 34 in the Regina region, eight in the Saskatoon area, four in the central-east zone, two in the north-central area and one in the south-central zone.
The 2,740 COVID tests processed in the province on Tuesday increased the total to date to 737,572.
Vaccination update
There were 7,554 doses of COVID-19 vaccine given in Saskatchewan in the latest reporting period, hiking the total so far to 365,001.
The latest doses were administered in the Saskatoon (1,743), central-east (1,007), Regina (743), southeast (719), northwest (675), north-central (533), south-central (512), southwest (408), central-west (342), northeast (321), far northeast (155), far northwest (126) and far north-central (two) zones.
The hometowns of 268 recipients are unknown.
As of Tuesday, 52 per cent of Saskatchewan residents aged 40 and over have been given a first dose.
Starting Thursday at 8 a.m., everyone aged 44 and over can book a vaccination appointment. In the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District, the age of eligibility is 40 and older.
The age limit applies to all of the province’s immunization clinics, including booked appointments, drive-through and walk-in clinics and mobile clinics.
