Regina Mayor Sandra Masters said she was disgusted by the sight of protesters outside the Regina General Hospital on Wednesday.
“To be in the face of people who are experiencing the really horrific consequences of contracting COVID is deplorable,” said Masters.
The mayor’s thoughts were also with health-care workers, “who are working day and night to keep people comfortable and safe and trying to get them healthy again.”
“Yeah, it’s not OK,” she continued.
Speaking on the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Thursday, Masters joined Premier Scott Moe and Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili, who have also condemned the protests, which oppose various pandemic measures.
Masters shared she had recently received the Pfizer vaccine. She was happy to get the jab.
“(I had a) really sore arm for about three or four days … but it was completely worth it,” she said.
‘Hopeful’ for CFL return to play
An announcement that the Canadian Football League was committing to a delayed and shortened 2021 season came as good news to Masters.
However, public health measures will almost certainly be a factor.
“I think that element of social distancing and mask wearing is probably going to be a part of this, but the more people we can get vaccinated, the more people we can potentially get in the stadium in a healthy fashion,” Masters said.
“I’m really pleased for the Riders and for the CFL to be able to go ahead and I think people are a little bit hungry for it … There’ll be some controlled access and all of those things but I think it’s hopeful.”
