The seven-day average of daily new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan is dropping.
The seven-day average of daily new cases now sits at 230 or 18.8 new cases per 100,000. That’s the lowest it has been since April 8, when it was 228 or 18.6 new cases per 100,000. At its peak, the seven-day average was 321 or 26.5 new cases per 100,000, which was on Jan. 12.
Saskatchewan recorded 207 new cases on Monday with the number of cases in Regina and Saskatoon coming in at 64 and 29 respectively.
The other new cases in the province are in north-central (31), south-central (16), central east (12), northwest (11), far northwest (11), northeast (eight), southwest (five), southeast (four) and central-west (one) zones. The hometowns of 15 cases are being determined.
The number of active cases in the province is at 2,397, which is down from yesterday’s active total of 2,437.
The number of new recoveries is at 244.
There are 174 people in hospital with 39 needing intensive care. There are 21 ICU patients in Regina and 14 in Saskatoon. There are two ICU patients in central-east and one each in north-central and south-central.
Three people died – one person in their 70s in the Regina area and two in their 80s in the north-central and Saskatoon zones. There have been 498 deaths due to COVID-19 in Saskatchewan so far.
Analysis continues to reveal COVID variant cases. Since the last update, there were 136 new cases of variants of concern identified by screening.
So far, there have been 7,296 variants of concern identified by screening in Saskatchewan with those cases being found in Regina, (3,878), Saskatoon (835), southeast (750), south-central (553), central-east (327), northwest (223), southwest (215), north-central (148), far northwest (143), central-west (86), northeast (29) and far northeast (three). The hometowns of another 106 are to be determined.
To date, 724,868 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan with 3,358 processed on Sunday. A total of 41,806 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed.
On Sunday, there were 7,154 vaccine doses administered, raising the total to 450,823. Of those, 2,118 were administered in Regina, 2,076 in Saskatoon, 831 in central-east, 562 in north-central, 320 in south-central, 299 in southeast, 278 in northwest, 172 in central-west, 124 in southwest, 111 in northeast, 51 in the far northwest and six in the far northeast. The hometowns of those who received 206 doses are to be determined.
First doses have been administered to 82 per cent of those over age 60 while the percentage of those 40 years of age or older is at 64 per cent. Looking at those 18-years-old or older, 43 per cent have received their first dose.
