While some fans are going gaga about Vince Young joining the Saskatchewan Roughriders, it’s much wiser to be realistic.
Or curious.
Will the former NFLer be able to adapt to the CFL game? Can he still run? Can he throw to the wide side of the field? Will he understand three downs, a 65-yard wide field, 20-yard end zones and a 12th player on the field? Is he in shape?
Those are the questions everyone should be asking.
Young, who turns 34 before the season starts, hasn’t played a real game since 2011. His final NFL years weren’t great and during his career, he threw about the same number of interceptions as touchdown passes.
Young apparently wants to play football again and his agent says he isn’t just looking forward to an NFL return.
Young’s ability will most likely be assessed in upcoming workouts. Anyone interested in the CFL should be curious about his status.
But believing he can step right into the job as Saskatchewan’s starting quarterback — ahead of veteran Kevin Glenn — is not being realistic.
