The power is still out across much of eastern Saskatchewan.
The areas around Yorkton, Melville and Canora are still facing widespread outages after a freezing rain storm downed powerlines early Friday morning.
In a news release Saturday afternoon, SaskPower media relations consultant Scott McGregor said “the majority of the damage to our lines will be repaired by the evening, though this could change depending on a number of factors.”
As of 11 a.m. Saturday, he said about 1,800 customers in the area were still without electricity.
However, crews are making progress. They were able to restore power to Qu’Appelle at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
“The weather is starting to cooperate, which is certainly making things go a bit quicker here. We have brought in crews from other parts of the province, from Saskatoon, North Battleford and Tisdale, to help with repairs. Hopefully, we’ll be able to see some lights coming back on later today,” McGregor said in a later interview.
He also stressed that downed powerlines are still very dangerous: if you come across one, keep your distance and give SaskPower a call.
