The U.S. Open has only one thing to do to prove that golf is in the entertainment business and no longer a buttoned-up game of polite, quiet golf claps.
Tournament organizers need to put Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in the same threesome to start rounds 2 and 3 of the next major.
Koepka’s viral eye roll and cuss-filled frustration of DeChambeau walking by wearing his steel spikes should be money for the marketing team of the PGA Tour and golf.
It’s a true rivalry as DeChambeau came back at Koepka on Instagram following the video spreading quickly through social media.
They do not like each other and this has been simmering for a while but under the radar unless you’re a diehard golf fan.
But golf needs to embrace the hate. With the money-maker Tiger Woods’ career in question, the sport needs a good rivalry and storyline the casual fan can get behind.
This should be a gimme putt, although golf has often missed these opportunities to market the game beyond Tiger.
