A member of the Regina Police Service (RPS) used his stun gun to prevent someone from committing suicide.
That’s according to a statement by the RPS, saying officers responded to a home in the 1000 block of Garnet Street in the North Central neighbourhood at around 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening.
That’s where police found a man holding a knife to his neck.
One of the responding officers used his stun gun on the man “due to a high risk of death or serious bodily harm,” the release stated.
The man was taken into custody before he was transported to Regina General Hospital for treatment.
Every time a stun gun is used by the RPS, it has to be documented as per policy before it will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee.
All uses of force are then reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission which is independent of the RPS.
