Saskatchewan reported its lowest daily total of new COVID-19 cases in more than three months Tuesday.
In its daily update, the Ministry of Health said there were 86 new cases, the fewest in a day since there were 56 reported on Feb. 24.
However, the low case total reported Tuesday came on just 1,719 tests. It was the second straight day Saskatchewan processed fewer than 1,800 tests.
The province also reported 181 recoveries, 42 new cases of variants of concern and one death. A person in their 70s from the central-east zone became the 540th Saskatchewan resident to die due to COVID-19.
There are 1,272 active cases in the province, the lowest that figure has been since it was 1,264 on March 17.
A look at the numbers
The new cases increased the province’s total to date to 46,834.
The latest infections were reported in the Saskatoon (26), north-central (13), south-central (13), Regina (11), southwest (seven), northwest (four), central-east (four), northeast (two), far northeast (one), far northeast (one) and southeast (one) zones. The hometowns of three cases are pending.
The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases is 134, or 11 per 100,000.
The latest recoveries increase the total so far to 45,022.
There are 108 people in Saskatchewan hospitals due to COVID, including 23 who are in intensive care. Those patients are in the Saskatoon (11), Regina (six), north-central (four), northwest (one) and central-east (one) zones.
The six ICU cases in Regina are the fewest since there were six on Feb. 27.
Vaccination update
The 5,304 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Saskatchewan in the latest reporting period increased the total so far to 730,952.
Of the latest doses, 3,509 were second shots, increasing the total number of people considered fully vaccinated to 86,726.
The newest doses were administered in the Regina (1,933), Saskatoon (1,675), north-central (435), northwest (369), central-east (214), southeast (195), south-central (93), far northeast (85), northeast (84), central-west (63), far northwest (20), southwest (11) and far north-central (six) regions.
The hometowns of 121 recipients are still being investigated.
