More than 102,000 Saskatchewan residents are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
In its daily update Thursday, the provincial government said 14,579 vaccinations had been completed in the most-recent reporting period, including a single-day record of 9,148 second doses.
That increased the number of people who have received both shots to 102,175.
The government also reported 131 new cases, 102 recoveries and two deaths. Two residents in the 80-and-over age group who lived in the northwest region died due to COVID, increasing the province’s death toll due to the virus to 543.
Vaccination update
The latest shots administered increased the province’s total so far to 754,830.
The most-recent shots were given in the Saskatoon (4,909), Regina (3,175), north-central (1,067), southeast (1,024), central-east (1,003), northwest (686), southwest (558), central-west (519), south-central (497), northeast (490), far northeast (228), far northwest (156) and far north-central (14) zones.
The hometowns of 253 recipients are being determined.
Provincewide, 77 per cent of those aged 40 and over now have received their first doses. So far, 72 per cent of those 30 and over, 66 per cent of those 18 and up, and 63 per cent of those 12 and over have received their first doses.
A look at the numbers
The new infections were reported in the Saskatoon (34), Regina (21), northwest (14), south-central (12), far northeast (11), southeast (11), north-central (seven), northeast (seven), far northwest (five), central-east (three) and central-west (two) zones. Four cases are pending residence information.
There have been 47,097 cases in the province since the pandemic started.
The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases is 133, or 10.9 per 100,000 people.
There were 174 new cases of variants of concern identified by screening, increasing the province’s total to date to 10,986.
So far, there have been 45,240 recoveries. The active caseload stands at 1,314.
Saskatchewan’s hospitals are caring for 100 COVID patients, with 23 in intensive care. Those patients are in the Saskatoon (10), Regina (seven), north-central (two), central-east (two) and southwest (two) zones.
The 28 hospitalizations in Regina are the fewest since there were 28 on Dec. 26.
Included in the ICU cases are two people who have been transferred to Saskatchewan from Manitoba.
The 2,287 COVID tests processed in Saskatchewan on Wednesday increased the provincial total to date to 868,090.
