A 91-year-old man is dead after what the RCMP described as “an altercation” in a Yorkton nursing home.
According to the RCMP, a staff member at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home heard an alleged altercation between two male residents in a room at around 2 a.m., on May 27.
When the staff member entered the room, they found a 91-year-old man who had been hurt. He was taken to hospital, where he died this past Sunday.
On Monday, the Saskatchewan Coroners Service reported the death to the Yorkton RCMP, which started an investigation. When the death was determined to be suspicious, the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit South took over the case.
An autopsy was completed Thursday in Saskatoon. The Mounties said there haven’t been any arrests, but they expect their investigation and discussions with Crown prosecutors will take some time to complete.
