The pandemic’s pressure on Saskatchewan’s healthcare system is easing up.
In the province’s latest COVID-19 update on Saturday, hospitalizations in the province dropped to 98.
The last time there were fewer than 100 people in hospital due to the virus was Nov. 22.
Of those currently in hospital, 79 are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: far north west (2), north west (11), north central (5), Saskatoon (29), central west (1), central east (3), Regina (24), south central (3) and south east (1).
Nineteen people are under intensive care, including two patients transferred from Manitoba. The breakdown is as follows: north central (1), Saskatoon (10), central east (2), Regina (5) and south west (1).
A look at the numbers
The province reported three new deaths Saturday. Two were in the 80-plus age group from the north west zone, with the third in the 60-69 category from the Saskatoon zone.
In total, 546 people have died.
There were 99 new cases, raising the total to 47,285.
They were located in the far north west (6), far north east (1), north west (19), north central (8), north east (4), Saskatoon (16), central west (3), Regina (11), south west (3), south central (18), south east (9) zones. The hometown of one new case is pending. Two earlier cases have been assigned to the central west (1) and north central (1).
There are 45,498 total recoveries, and 1,241 cases are still active.
On June 4, there were 2,021 tests processed in Saskatchewan.
As of that date, 11,216 variants of concern have been identified.
With the latest lineage results, 5,987 variants of concern have had their lineages identified: 5,753 are the U.K. variant, 187 are the Brazilian variant, 37 are the Indian variant and 10 are the South African variant.
Vaccination update
Another 16,667 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, bringing the total to 787,130.
They were given in the following zones: far north west (320), far north central (28), far north east (92), north west (893), north central (1,017), north east (703), Saskatoon (3,865), central west (520), central east (1,596), Regina (4,639), south west (520), south central (1,055), south east (1,179). They’re still investigating the home-towns of 240 doses.
So far, 78 per cent of those aged 40 years and older have received their first dose.
Of those 30 and older, 72 per cent have received their first dose.
Sixty-seven per cent of adults have received their first dose.
Of those 12 and older, 64 per cent have received their first dose.
