Tipsters helped Regina Crime Stoppers have one of its best months ever in May.
In a media release Tuesday, the organization said 13 tips received during the month led to 18 arrests and 39 charges laid. By comparison, there were 13 arrests and 30 charges laid in all of 2020, and 25 charges and 62 arrests in 2019.
The 13 tips last month earned rewards totalling $1,950.
“May truly was a fabulous month, unquestionably one of the best in our history since our inception in 1984,” Regina Crime Stoppers president Amanda Halderman said in the release.
“This achievement means that the public is not only hearing our messaging, but they are also giving us credible tips that help police solve crime. Our volunteer board is incredibly grateful to citizens making a difference.”
The organization doesn’t release what specific crimes were solved to protect the anonymity of those who submit tips, but it noted the tips in May concerned theft, stolen property and violation of public health orders, among other offences.
People can leave tips anonymously by calling 1-800-222-8477, by downloading the Crime Stoppers P3 app in the Apple or Android store, or by visiting the organization’s website.
