Starting today, outdoor pools are opening up in the Queen City.
Regent Pool is open as of Thursday. On Saturday, Buffalo Meadows Pool will welcome swimmers, the brand new Maple Leaf Pool is set to open on Monday and the Massey Pool is almost finished being repaired and will be open closer to the end of the month.
Jesse McCabe, an aquatic program co-ordinator for the City of Regina, says there are multiple ways you can ensure a time slot at Regent or Massey pool.
“Every Friday at 9 a.m., the times you can reserve are open for the following week. You can either register online, in person or over the phone,” McCabe said. “Because there are limited spots, with COVID, we try to encourage everyone to go online as that is the quickest and the best way to guarantee your spot.”
For Buffalo Meadows and Maple Leaf, McCabe described the approach to signing up as a more relaxed approach.
“It will be like a walk-in. It’s similar to when you go to the restaurant and you have to leave your name and a phone number. You will register on site,” he said.
McCabe said he is very excited for Maple Leaf Pool to open its doors, adding it’s the first new recreation facility to open in the city in quite some time.
“It’s going to be a little bit larger than the pre-existing outdoor pool, and it’s going to be much more accessible for not just children but any type of individual with varying needs,” he said.
