Canada’s Farm Show is back after a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19 — and this year’s edition of the famous agricultural event in Regina is virtual.
The two-day online show, which began Wednesday, expects to attract a national crowd.
“We have thousands and thousands virtually watching our show,” said Shirley Janeczko, the agriculture manager for Canada’s Farm Show.
“It’s amazing. I think our customers are anxious to see what’s out there in the agriculture world.”
The show kicked off Wednesday at 9 a.m. Throughout each day, people can log on and watch the show live or on demand.
Although COVID-19 restrictions are loosening, Canada’s Farm Show chose to go ahead and not wait for an in-person event, so its members can take full advantage of the farming season.
“The timing of the farm show is very strategic,” Janeczko said. “You would not want to host this show in Saskatchewan in fall because harvest can go on for eight straight weeks or longer.
“We felt this was a time to reach our audience and just do the best we can, and just get in front of our customers.”
Each day includes different topics to be discussed, such as artificial intelligence, plant protein, and advancing agrifood innovation. Keynote speakers include individuals such as Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister David Marit, former premier Brad Wall and former prime minister Stephen Harper.
This year, Canada’s Farm Show partnered with Cultivator to host a 24-hour startup agtech event. According to its website, the 24-hour startup “will collide agriculture and technology to focus on creating innovative solutions to real ag problems being experienced today.”
