8:30 – On Sunday, Saskatchewan moved to Step 2 of the province’s “Re-Opening Roadmap”, meaning no more table capacity limits for restaurants and bars, 15 people allowed at private indoor gatherings, no more restrictions on indoor sports, and a few other changes. And the announcement we were call waiting for came Sunday: COVID measures will be a thing of the past in Saskatchewan on July 11. In a news release Sunday, the province announced that all restrictions, including mandatory masks and gathering limits, would be lifted. This breaks from the initial plan of keeping masks and gathering limits until three weeks after 70 per cent of people aged 12 and up received their first COVID vaccine dose. In that release, Premier Scott Moe said the province is close enough. Health Minister Paul Merriman joins Gormley to talk us through the health order changes, and explain how he’s working to encourage more first doses.
PRE-TAPED: Paul Merriman, Saskatchewan Health Minister.
9:15 – The Hour of the Big Stories… Open Session
10:00 – A research team at the University of Saskatchewan is embarking on a long-term study of police street checks in Saskatchewan, commonly called “carding.” The practice is highly controversial, and the team led by Dr. Scott Thompson is aiming to determine the impacts carding has on the community and the legality of the practice by looking at legal precedent. Thompson joins Gormley to tell us more about the project. Should police carding be banned, or is it a useful tool that allows cops to investigate suspicious people and prevent crime? Call 1-877-332-8255 and let us know what you think!
LIVE: Dr. Scott Thompson, assistant professor of sociology at the U of S.
10:45 – There are more than 4,000 charities active around Saskatchewan, and we’re embarking on a new project to feature some of the great people doing great work in this province during a brand-new segment we like to call “The Best of Saskatchewan.” In this week’s feature, we’ll catch up with Gord Androsoff, executive director of CHEP Good Food Inc., an organization that’s been promoting and providing healthy food to Saskatoon residents for three decades.
