8:30 – The discovery of unmarked graves at the sites of residential schools in Canada has many questioning the future of reconciliation, with some calling for the removal of memorials to Sir John A Macdonald and other figures from Canada’s history, and others calling for the cancellation of Canada Day celebrations. Chris Sankey, a prominent Indigenous business leader and former councillor for the Lax Kw’alaams Band in BC, penned a thoughtful open letter addressed to Macdonald, saying he does not care for our first prime minister due to the pain he caused Indigenous peoples, but harbouring resentment against a historical figure doesn’t right the wrongs Macdonald helped cause. Sankey joins Gormley to discuss reconciliation in Canada and his reaction to the residential school grave discoveries.

10:00 – A new national survey by the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy shows that Canadians – even in Saskatchewan and Alberta – support climate change measures, but there are some major differences in attitudes across Canada and across political lines. For example, 58% of Liberal voters prioritize climate over jobs, while just 26% of CPC voters feel the same way. Dr. Margot Hurlbert with JSGS joins Gormley to tell us more about the results.

10:45 – There are more than 4,000 charities active around Saskatchewan, and we’re embarking on a new project to feature some of the great people doing great work in this province during a brand-new segment we like to call “The Best of Saskatchewan.” In this week’s feature, we’ll catch up with Sandi Meldrum, executive director of Care & Share Saskatoon. Care & Share funds programs and makes them available to all 17 Saskatoon community schools by partnering with various organizations in Saskatoon to facilitate programs and services to meet children’s needs, and all programs and goods and services are provided to the schools at no cost.
