Gun and antique enthusiasts pack Praireland Park over the weekend

There was more than just guns at the 26th annual gun and collectible show at Praireland Park over the weekend.
 
Antiques, hockey cards, and even comic books lined the many tables at Western Canada’s biggest firearm event.
 
“A lot of rural people like to see the antique firearms that they don’t always see in the stores,” said Jon Pickering, director of the Saskatoon Gun Club.
 
“Guns are an instant gratification because you pull the trigger and the gun goes bang,” he added.
 
7250 people came out, including toy enthusiast George Pugh.
 
“Bought a tin replica Ferris wheel,” he said. “I’m a huge toy collector, especially cars and hockey cards.”
 
Pickering expects to grow the show by 25 per cent next year.
 
“We are looking at adding a couple more rows of vendors because we have a waiting list,” he said.
 
The Saskatoon Model Engineering Society was also showing off the many models they’ve built over the years.
 
“Our creations are a huge hit with the kids,” said President Ted Hansen. 
 
“We get a lot of people wanting to buy the pieces, but I’d never want to sell because you’d never get all the time you put into it back.”
