Man, woman face gun charges after dangerous driving stop

Even a spike belt couldn’t immediately stop an allegedly erratic driver early Sunday morning in Regina.

Police said officers noticed a vehicle driving erratically around Second Avenue and Pasqua Street, just before 5 a.m. Police added information indicated there was a gun inside the vehicle.

The driver allegedly evaded police after an attempted traffic stop on Sherwood Drive, and headed north out of the city. The driver was heading south on Highway 6, back into Regina, when police said a spike belt was used.

In a news release, police called the tactic “successful” but said the driver continued to drive on damaged tires before stopping on a median. According to police, a sawed-off firearm was found under the driver’s seat.

Police arrested 27-year-old Brandy Miranda Stewart, of Regina, and 27-year-old Bradley Calvin Charles Jerome, of no fixed address, without further incident.

Both face several charges, including possession of a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Stewart faces additional charges, including flight while pursued by a police officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to comply with a probation order and failing or refusing to provide a breath sample.

Both Stewart and Jerome appeared in court in Regina Monday morning.
