Sask. pedestrians, cyclists to vote in CAA worst roads campaign

It’s that time of year when the snow and ice melts, leaving potholes and cracks in the road to stare drivers in the face.

It’s also the season for CAA Saskatchewan’s Worst Roads campaign.

The initiative invites people in Saskatchewan to nominate the province’s worst roads – the ones with potholes or crumbling pavement, poor signage, a lack of cycling or pedestrian infrastructure or traffic congestion.

Voting in the sixth annual campaign opens April 3.

This year, pedestrians and cyclists are invited to nominate their areas of concern. The results will be shared with decision makers and government in early May.

The 2016 CAA Worst Roads Campaign received 4,298 votes. For the second year in a row, Highway 354 was voted the worst road in Saskatchewan.

According to CAA, Saskatchewan has a total road surface of 160,000 kilometres, including municipal roads and 26,000 of provincial highways.
