Darrell Davis: No bookings during CFL Week

Admittedly, it was a bad time for a book launch.

But it’s CFL Week.

So we thought it would be a natural link to “Football in Focus: Five Decades of Filming Pro Games.” We held the intimate book launch at the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, which sponsored the book. 

It’s a story about the evolution of film in football. From hand-held cameras that held three minutes worth of film, through videotape to the digital recordings used by every pro football team in North America.

Football coaches have been using game films for 60 years, and for most of that time John Solilo and his family were involved in filming Saskatchewan Roughriders games.

Because it involved the Canadian Football League in the 1980s and 1990s, John Solilo and his family didn’t make any money.

But they had fun.

There are some interesting stories in our book about Eagle Keys, Al Ford and Ken Davey, the pioneer of filming football games.

We’ll save them until CFL Week is over.
