Many were left in the dark Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, due to multiple power outages.
The first occurred at 4 p.m. when a sub-transmission line was lost due to a damaged spar on a power pole, said SaskPower spokesperson Joel Cherry. This caused 1,681 customers to lose power in west Saskatoon, Delisle, Perdue, Tessier and Biggar.
The majority had power restored by 5:30 p.m., with all customers restored by just before 9 p.m.
The second power outage occurred shortly after, at 4:30 p.m, after a bird got into the equipment at the Martensville substation. A total of 1,791 customers in the northern portions of Saskatoon, along with Martensville, Warman, Osler and its surrounding areas were impacted.
Power was back on at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
A smaller outage — also caused by a bird — occurred between 7 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. 173 customers were affected in Saskatoon’s Silverwood Heights neighbourhood.
Cherry said close to a third of SaskPower outages are caused by wildlife. Aging equipment and weather comprise the other outages.
