The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan crept closer to 900 on Friday.
The Ministry of Health reported 125 new cases and 22 recoveries, moving the active caseload to 893. That’s the highest that number has been since it was 899 on June 11.
There were 203 active cases reported in the Saskatoon region. That figure hasn’t been that high since it was 212 on June 12.
In the Regina region, 45 cases were considered active as of Friday.
There are 73 COVID patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, with nine in intensive care. That’s the highest number of hospitalizations due to the coronavirus in the province since there were 76 on June 28.
There weren’t any deaths due to COVID announced in Saskatchewan on Friday.
The new cases were in the north-central (21), Saskatoon (18), south-central (15), far northeast (15), southeast (14), far northwest (12), Regina (seven), northwest (four), northeast (four), southwest (four), central-east (four), far north-central (two) and central-west (one) zones.
The hometowns of four cases are pending.
Three cases previously announced were determined to be out-of-province residents and were removed from the Saskatchewan total. Since March of 2020, there have been 51,034 cases of COVID reported in the province.
The Regina region has reported the most cases to date, with 12,287. Saskatoon has had the second-most cases reported, with 12,000.
The seven-day average of new cases rose Friday to 98, its highest mark since it was 98 on June 8.
So far, there have been 49,555 recoveries reported.
There were 2,539 doses of COVID vaccine administered in Saskatchewan, including 1,792 second doses.
To date, 1,441,816 COVID shots have been given in the province and 672,703 people have received both doses.
